What does pregnancy care entail?

At Elite Women’s Care, the caring professionals seek to involve you in the birth process. The team helps you develop a birth plan that is consistent with your needs and goals. They recognize that every patient deserves an individualized approach to labor and delivery.

The practice has a low cesarean section rate, and they support vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) deliveries. The team does not perform routine episiotomies, and they support and encourage breastfeeding.

The practice has affiliations with AMITA Health St. Alexius Medical Center Hoffman Estates, AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center Elk Grove Village, and NCH Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights in Illinois.

When should I first see a doctor about pregnancy?

The team of providers at Elite Women’s Care includes two obstetricians and a certified nurse midwife. They welcome you into the practice as soon as you know you’re pregnant. 

You may even choose to make an appointment prior to getting pregnant to learn how to best prepare your body for pregnancy, to start a prenatal vitamin, and to learn ways to increase your chances of conceiving.

At your first prenatal appointment, you undergo a simple blood test to confirm your pregnancy. They estimate your due date and check the baby’s heart rate. 

This first appointment is a chance to begin a relationship of mutual trust and respect, so your practitioner at Elite Women’s Care can help you have the birth experience you envision.

What is involved in prenatal care?

If you’re thinking about getting pregnant, you suspect you may be pregnant, or you’re definitely pregnant, schedule a prenatal care consultation at Elite Women’s Care. Prenatal care helps you and your baby stay healthy throughout pregnancy. 

Prenatal care is important in keeping you and your baby healthy throughout pregnancy. Prenatal care includes:

• Regular checkups to review the health of both you and your baby
• Nutritional support, including recommendations about prenatal vitamins
• Exercise recommendations
• Tests to evaluate your baby’s growth process
• Evaluations to check for health complications, such as high blood pressure or infections

In the first 28 weeks of your pregnancy, expect to visit the office just once every month. Your visits increase to twice per month during weeks 28-36. Plan to come to Elite Women’s Care once each week in weeks 36 through birth. 

If sometime during your routine pregnancy it’s determined that you’ve become high risk, these visits may happen more frequently after that.
