What is a colposcopy?\u00a0<\/h3>


Colposcopy is a simple in-office procedure that the team at Elite Women’s Care may recommend when you’ve had an abnormal Pap smear result.\u00a0<\/p>

A colposcopy gets its name because the procedure involves a colposcope, a slim magnifying device. Your practitioner uses the device to examine your cervix and take samples of any abnormal-looking cells for testing.\u00a0<\/p>

Lab tests then assess the severity of the abnormality. If the lab results show the presence of precancerous cells, your practitioner may recommend a procedure to remove the abnormalities, such as a loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP).\u00a0<\/p>
