Over-the-Counter Medications That Are Safe to Take During Pregnancy

Here is a helpful list of recommended over-the-counter medications that are safe to take during all stages of pregnancy created by our practitioners.

COMMON COLDS:

  • Saline Nasal Spray
  • Robitussin Cough Syrup (Sugar Free for Diabetic Patients)
  • Actifed
  • Chlor-Trimeton
  • Delsym Cough Syrup
  • Mucinex DM
  • Tussin-Diabetic Formula
  • Throat Lozenges (Halls, Sucrets etc.)
  • Triaminic-Diabetic Cough Formula
  • Vicks Vapor Rub
  • Tylenol Cold

NAUSEA/VOMITING:

  • Ginger Capsules (340mg tablets) 3 times per day
  • Vitamin B6 (25mg tab) 3 times per day
  • Unisom (25 mg tab) ½ tab 3 times per day (take Vitamin B6 with each dose)

CONSTIPATION:

  • Increase intake of water, fresh fruits, vegetables and fiber (cereals high in fiber include: Raisin Bran, Grape Nuts, Trail Mix, Fiber One)

PAIN:

  • Tylenol 325-650mg every 4-6 hours as needed

FLATULENCE/GAS:

  • Mylicon Gas-X

HEARTBURN:

  • Maalox
  • Milk of Magnesia
  • Mylanta
  • Tums
  • Zantac
  • Pepcid

ITCHING:

  • Benadryl
  • Caladryl Lotion
  • Aveeno Anti-Itch Lotion

YEAST INFECTION:

  • Monistat Cream (generic ok)
  • Gyne-Lotrimin

HEMORRHOIDS:

  • Anusol HC
  • Anusol Suppositories
  • Tucks Pads
  • Preparation H Cream

SINUS/ALLERGIES:

  • Claritin (not Claritin-D)
  • Benadryl
  • Zytrec (Not Zytrec-D)
  • Shower Soothers (tablets to place in bottom of shower)
